Four in the morning is not the best time to do an interview. But when your subject is Jack Black, all the grogginess is wiped out immediately.
His booming voice is very clear over the line, and that’s not surprising, considering it’s his voice which is in effect his face in his new film Kung Fu Panda.
“It’s an animation film, which I am doing for the first time. I would count it as one of my favourite films since School of Rock and High Fidelity. I have had a chance to work on my vocal acting, which has really helped,” he says.
Black has worked with Angelina Jolie in the film, but ask him about the experience and all he says is, “I am letting you on to a secret. Angelina is actually expecting a panda. Did you know that? This is something I haven’t told anyone, but I couldn’t keep it anymore.”
Well, we’ll take that with a pinch of salt, but ask him about his career graph in Hollywood, and Black is candid about how his ‘unconventional looks’ have helped him get more roles.
“There may be a lot of Brad Pitts around here, but there aren’t many Jack Blacks. This town is full of handsome men, but I bring something different to the table. My unconventional looks have helped me in getting some of my best roles, whether it is High Fidelity or King Kong or School of Rock.
