REVIEW: Flashbacks Of A Fool
GOOD, GOOD, GOOD
Harry Eden and Jodhi May (as Evelyn Adams) are good, and their lovemaking scenes add repeat value to the movie. The first two times Evelyn tries to seduce Joe are unsuccessful attempts, and even in these light moments, the sexual frustration of both the characters comes across very well.
Claire Forlani as the older Ruth Davies is damn good, playing the widow who cannot cry in the saddest moment in her life. How Joe makes her cry without even being around is a scene to watch out for!
Daniel Craig is wonderful as the faded movie star, who has yet to come to terms with the fact that his Hollywood career is over and that no one is interested in him anymore. Craig is a pleasant surprise, and there is not one thing that tells you he is the new Bond. His tonality and body language are perfect, and his completely changing them shows he is a bloody good actor, one who wishes to go beyond playing James Bond.
The best thing about the movie is it doesn't show the protagonist as a hero or someone who evolves into a better person. Joe Scott is a man who has a flashback about the most important phase from his past, acts in the present not in an attempt to undo the past but just because it seems like the right next step. And the story is left at that.
The best scene in Flashbacks Of A Fool is of a tipsy Joe Scott floating in the middle of the sea. It’s a very short scene but says so much about the character at a very important point in his life without saying anything. Fantastic!
VERDICT
For all fans of Mr Daniel Craig and those who wish to see how good he is at not playing James Bond, or for those who simply wish to watch a good movie...Flashbacks Of A Fool is definitely worth a watch.
